Final BG Portfolio(2200 x 750 px)

Booking.com is one of the well-known vacation booking platforms. I concentrated on the mobile app, redesigning its UI and adding small UX improvements where needed. My focus was on preserving the brand’s recognizable personality and color palette, ensuring the redesign kept the familiar Booking.com feel, but in an improved way.

About

Creating a fresh and improved redesign of the Booking.com app while maintaining its well-known color palette.

Developing a new palette would have been simple, but since the brand is already highly recognizable, I chose to keep its original colors and personality and focus on elevating the design, and visual harmony trough changes in the style system. I also made a slight color change on the logo in order to fit the new style.

The Mission

The Colors of Booking.com

The Vibe

Booking.com uses blue and yellow, likely to symbolize the ocean and sky, and the beach and sun, a natural link to vacations. In the current design, this vibe is partly lost. To strengthen it, I updated the style system by using yellow for key buttons instead of light blue. This creates a visual effect of the ocean meeting the beach, and the sky being lit by the rising sun, reinforcing the vacation feeling.

The "Continue your search" Section

To illustrate the issues in the current design, I want to take a closer look at this section. In a booking app, images are a key driver, so enhancing the visibility of images was a top priority, along with improvements in typography and spacing.

Here are some of the issues I found:

The image-to-card proportion feels off

Missing white space between image and text

Fonts lack hierarchy

Image too small

The Golden Ratio

The new design encompasses a proportion of the golden ratio (1,618), bigger images and an improved typography.
