What does Biridng Israel stand for?

Founded in 1980, BirdLife Israel (formerly known as Israel Ornithological Center) is a branch of the largest conservation NGO in the country, Society for the Protection of Nature in Israel (SPNI). Our mission is to protect the birds of Israel and their habitats, realizing the global importance of Israel as a major bottleneck and stopover region along the African-Eurasian Flyway, and the great diversity of biomes within our small country. In today’s era of global biodiversity loss and climate change, this mission is ever more crucial and challenging.

The Concept

The website should be easy and fun to use. Especially since part of the target audience are young people and people that do not come from a background of research, the content should be presented in an appealing way that is easy yet exciting and fun to learn. Hence, we went with a concept that is a bit different from the regular approach and decided to start the website with a painted image where people can look for birds and find out how they are called and ideally learn more about them if they click on the button. Additionally the website should contain a bird quiz that is fun for the younger audience to play and learn on the way. There is also a section to identify birds that the users might have seen according to size, color, location and time of the year. This aims to spark curiosity and the awareness of nature all around us.
We also made the donate section more appealing by giving an option on what to donate – the amount of a coffee, hamburger etc.

The Logo

Also the logo was designed in a way so it should be appealing to the general public as well as to a younger audience. Since we decided on a painted style on the home page, also the logo was created in a painted style. Since the website is both in English, as well as in Hebrew, also with the logo we implemented both languages.
The white-throated kingfisher was chosen for the logo due to its prominence in Israel’s diverse wildlife. Known for its vibrant colors and adaptability, the bird symbolizes resilience and harmony with nature, qualities that reflect both the country’s landscape and the Birding Israel’s aims of conservation.
